Wind, aircraft and crowds

• Beach wind: the Gulf breeze picks up most afternoons. Wind protection goes on the boom and every lav, and beach dialogue is easier in the morning.
• Aircraft: Albert Whitted Airport sits on the downtown St. Pete waterfront, and St. Pete-Clearwater International and the Coast Guard air station are a few miles north. Small planes and helicopters are part of the background near the water, so expect to hold a take now and then.
• Spring break and season: Clearwater Beach is packed from February into April. The crowds, the music from the beach bars and the traffic all get louder. Early call times help.
